Blue Stockings are an art-folk duo based in Meanjin/Brisbane, featuring guitarist Chloe Hasson and vocalist Alison Paris. Exploring unconventional techniques in their song-writing and playing, their authentic sound lands at the intersection of folk and experimental music. With a focus on story-telling and conceptual performances, Blue Stockings approaches their music with a DIY ethos and a sense of humour.
The pair embrace their unique sound, playing lineups alongside renowned names in contemporary art music such as Courtenay Cleary and Alex Raineri, as well as with local indie favourites such as Red Hill, Kat Flowers, and Cigany Weaver.
Their debut EP 'Impermanence', is a collection of songs that explore various sub-genres of folk music with influences ranging from psychedelic 70s folk and traditional ballads. Impermanence is a concept EP, with the lyrics and themes of the songs each reflecting a different Tarot card. The body of work comes to reflect a querent, or the subject of the reading, who is at a crossroads in their life. Stuck in the wrong career, wrong relationship and wrong circle of friends. Uncertainty and indecisiveness is the core of the reading - but so is the knowledge that this is only temporary, and someday clarity and peace will come.
