An Unquiet Grave
An infatuation with experimental soundscapes and otherworldly melodic grace, calls Blue Stockings to embark on their second iteration of ‘An Unquiet Grave.’
Taking their passion for folk and classical music, and dissolving what you may expect from guitar and voice, Blue Stockings creates ethereal gloom through extended techniques and pedal effects. Fresh arrangements for guitar and voice, joined by the lyrical beauties and instrumentation of Red Hill.
Join Blue Stockings and Red Hill in the verdurous surrounds of Ashgrove’s The Junk Bar on Friday the 13th of September for a haunting evening of melodic phrase and instrumental experimentation. Dress in your spookiest outfit for a chance to enter into a competition of portentous rumblings.

City Sounds: Blue Stockings
Saturday, 12:00pm, 1:00pm and 2:00pm @ Queen Street Mall Stage
Formed in early 2020, Blue Stockings is a contemporary experimental folk duo born out of a combination of genuine love for classical and art music, and frustration with the limitations of the genre.
Soprano Alison Paris and classical guitarist Chloe Hasson share a love for all things boundary-pushing and out of the ordinary; specialising in chamber and art-folk music, and delving into improvisations and soundscapes aided by an array of pedals and haunting use of harmony. Blue Stockings curates shows with original concepts, unique programs, and engaging stories, and have been featured in Anywhere Festival and Brisbane Music Festival.
Ten of Swords
Joining the stages at Brisbane Music Festival for a second show, Blue Stockings will showcase a compilation of original music. Spanning inspiration from folk, classical, and art music, this concert hones in on the creativity and experimentation Blue Stockings is known for.
Compiling a selection of pieces from past, present, and future projects, Ten of Swords offers front-row seats into the minds of Alison and Chloe.
Blue Stockings will feature alongside clarinetist, Dario Scalabrini, and pianist, Francis Atkins.
Notes for Tomorrow
In conjunction with Brisbane Music Festival, Blue Stockings presents the Australian Premiere of Confiding by David Leisner. Leisner has put word to song, with a collection of poems written by some of history’s most accomplished women; including Emily Bronte and Emily Dickenson.
Joining Blue Stockings for this wonderful afternoon is: concert violinist, Courtenay Cleary and pianist/festival director, Alex Reineri.
An Unquiet Grave
With a diverse setlist and a love affair with experimental sounds, Blue Stockings are now embarking on their most ambitious project yet; ‘An Unquiet Grave’.
This Halloween, experience a fresh and diverse setlist featuring music from Henry Purcell, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Wallfisch, Kasey Chambers, Shirley Collins, and many more; all with excitingly eerie original arrangements. This has become a staple of Blue Stockings’ shows, but this time, there'll be one more twist.
Subverting what you can expect to hear from classical voice and guitar, Blue Stockings will be creating otherworldly, eerie soundscapes to close out your Halloween weekend. Sponsored by Delinquente Wine Co. and joined by the incomparable Luminescence (as seen at Brisbane Street Art Festival, Jungle Love & Yonder), don't miss this Halloween-themed night of art and experimental music at The Station, Fortitude Valley, on October 29th.
P.S. Costumes encouraged!!
Music from 6.30pm. Flexible ticket pricing starting from $20.
Townsville Tour
Education and Mentorship at Saint Margaret Mary’s College
Joining the students at Saint Margaret Mary’s College for 3 days, Blue Stockings will host a private choral masterclass, guitar ensemble workshop, and Q&A session. Students will have the opportunity to learn songs from the duo’s most recent project, Colourless: A Collection of Poetry, as well as gain insight into life as a musician.
Colourless @ The Osk Bar // Thursday July 13, 6:30pm
Join us at the beautifully intimate cocktail bar, Osk Bar Townsville, for an evening of original folk.
This is Blue Stockings' most recent project; bringing together two artistic styles: poetry and music, and creating an entirely authentic, and beautifully composed song cycle.
The collection of poems derives from the words of Chloe's GranPa, Gordon Hasson. In 2011, Gordon published A Collection of Poems, Literary Inspirations and Inanity, and gifted a copy to each family member. Inside the pages: A chaotic and wonderous style of writing and composition.
Blue Stockings premiered the collection of poetry in collaboration with Anywhere Festival in May of 2022, among the plants and greenery at Mappin's Nursery and Aquarium in West End, Brisbane. Set to release the song cycle to all music streaming platforms in June 2023, Blue Stockings is proud to share such an honourable story.
Deriving music from all genres, this upbeat, and light-hearted song cycle also tells the tale of a local Townsville legend.
The duo intend to bring the story back to Townsville to tell it and share the words of local resident Gordon in its place of origin.

Colourless: A Collection of Poetry
Colourless is a collection of poetry by Gordon Hasson set to original music written for guitar, piano and two voices by classical-contemporary duo Blue Stockings.
This unique program follows a day-in-the-life narrative of Hasson; with overarching themes of finding humour in the mundanity of life, and wistful reflections on the past. His composition and way of seeing the world is retold with humour and quirky wit. His words are accompanied by original music, taking inspiration from a timeline of folk-pop and classic styles across the decades with influences such as Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens and Siobhan Miller. Surrounded by plants and stunning greenery, Colourless will be performed at Mappin’s Nursery and Aquarium in the Pottery Room.
Guitar, Piano: Chloe Hasson
Voice: Alison Paris
Poetry: Gordon Hasson
Music: Chloe Hasson and Alison Paris
With their classical background and love for a scope of genres, they have shared their unique interpretations of existing music since the duo’s inception. From Bach to Mozart all the way to Dolly Parton, Blue Stockings is excited to explore those influences through Colourless; an original song cycle for voice, guitar and piano.
Thank you to Mappin’s Nursery and Aquarium, All the Green Things and Anywhere Festival for hosting and facilitating this performance.
